This image shows students Joanne Martin and Janet Cheek receiving the Alpha Chi Award at an awards ceremony held by the Honors Program in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Presenting the award is Dr. Leland Nichols. The Honors Program is an academic and residential community for high achieving students and is open to freshmen, transfer students, and current students at Appalachian State. Also pictured is Dr.Nichols Assistant Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences and a geography faculty member.
