This image shows a student receiving an award from a faculty member at the Honors Program award ceremony in Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1981. Presenting the award is Dean Nicholas Erneston (Fine and Applied Arts). On the far left, seated behind him wearing glasses, is Vice Chancellor Harvey Durham (Academic Affairs). The Honors Program is an academic and residential community for high achieving students and is open to freshmen, transfer students, and current students at Appalachian State. Dr. Hans Heyman, English faculty, is seen just over the handshake.
