Description

This image shows a meeting concerning the Upward Bound Program held at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in January 1972. Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) can be seen sitting on the left. Upward Bound is an federally funded academic program for disadvantaged high school students that was first funded at Appalachian State in 1972. It offers weekly tutoring sessions, academic counseling, classroom instruction, college entrance exam preparation, study skills workshops, and a comprehensive six-week summer session at Appalachian State University that includes college-level coursework at on-campus facilities.
