Military Science, fundraiser, photo 1

Description

This image shows two attendees at a breakfast fundraiser held by the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1970s. Two women ROTC officers can be seen pouring coffee. The Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) began in the fall of 1969 and is housed in the Department of Military Science in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. It offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. The man whose coffee is being poured is Mr. James Marsh, President of the Watauga County Savings and Loan.
