Military Science, fundraiser, photo 2
Description
This image shows three women manning a table with a donation box during a breakfast fundraiser held by the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1970s. The sign on the table reads, "We hope you enjoyed your breakfast. Make your donation to the Heart Fund here, minimum $..." The Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) began in the fall of 1969 and is housed in the Department of Military Science in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. It offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. From the left Ms. Hilda Broyhill, Ms. Pat Hodges and Ms. Jane Smith. Ms. Hodges was the Administrative Assistant in the Office of Business Affairs. Ms. Smith was the Station Manager at WATA.
