This image shows an Appalachian State University (1967-current) student preparing to rappel down a cliff at the North Carolina Outward Bound adventure course at Table Rock, NC, in the 1970s. A man can be seen tying rope around the student's waist. The Outward Bound course was used by Western North Carolina high school and college students to provide outdoor training and leadership experience, and included rock climbing, ropes courses, rafting, and hiking.
