This image shows Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) speaking behind a podium at an SEANC meeting at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1977. The State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) started in 1940 to provide representation for state employees in the North Carolina General Assembly, and held its first convention in 1947. The organization promoted increased salaries, retirement plans, health plans, and the addition of the Friday after Thanksgiving as an employee holiday. Immediately to the left of Chancellor Wey is Mr. Larry Nance, Director of Personnel Services. To the right of Chancellor Wey and wearing glasses is Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
