This image shows Chancellor John E. Thomas (1979-1993) speaking behind a podium at a staff luncheon held at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, built 1972, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in December 1980. The luncheon included distributing awards for outstanding staff performance. Seated to the left of Chancellor Thomas and smoking a pipe is Dr. David McIntire, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Seated to the right of Chancellor Thomas is Unknown, Dr. Harvey Durham, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and Mr. Ned Trivette, Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs.
