This image shows a woman handing an envelope to a man at a staff luncheon held at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, built 1972, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in December 1980. The luncheon included distributing awards for outstanding staff performance. Chancellor John E. Thomas (1979-1993) can be seen sitting in the background. Ms. Darlene Rupert, Secretary in the Department of Foreign Languages, is seen presenting an award to Mr Frank Shropshire. Mr. Shropshire was Director of Safety and Occupational Health.
