H. Grady and Lucy Harding Farthing, 1980

This image shows H. Grady and Lucy Farthing sitting at a table holding a cake reading, "Happy Birthday Mr. Farthing," in April 1980. Appalachian State University (1967-current) named Farthing Auditorium, built 1974, after the Farthings. Both Mr. and Mrs. Farthing were graduates of Appalachian Training School (1903-1925), Grady Farthing in 1912 and Lucy Farthing in 1915. Grady Farthing worked at Watauga Savings and Loan for fifty years.
