This image shows a student sitting on the grass at Sanford Mall with her dog at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Stray or unleashed dogs were common on the Appalachian State campus during the 1970s. Strays were often were fed by students and allowed to roam freely until the campus began enforcing leash laws.
