Description

This image shows President Emeritus William Howard Plemmons (1955-1969) speaking with two members of the Board of Trustees of Appalachian State University (1967-current) in a conference room on August 10, 1973. The Board of Trustees has been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian State under the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors.
