Description
This image shows a meeting of the Board of Trustees of Appalachian State University (1967-current) in a conference room on August 10, 1973. Board members can be seen sitting around a conference table. The Board of Trustees has been a governing body of the College since it became a state-sponsored institution in 1903. The Board of Trustees was formed of members representing regional areas of Western North Carolina and managed Appalachian policies, finances, and development until 1971, when it became part of the University of North Carolina system. It now oversees Appalachian State under the University of North Carolina system's Board of Governors. Seated on the far left is Dr. Paul Sanders, Vice President for Academic Affairs. Seated next to him is Dr. Braxton Harris, Vice President for Student Affairs. Seated in the corner and smoking a pipe is Mr. Bob Allen, Director of Public Affairs. On the far right and wearing a bow tie is Dr. Cratis Williams, Dean of the Graduate School.
