This image shows a luncheon for the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Two attendees can be seen sitting at tables with water and coffee cups in front of them. The Board of Governors is the main governing body of the sixteen University of North Carolina institutions, and elects each of the institutions' chancellors, vice chancellors, senior academic and administrative officers, and faculty with permanent tenure. Seated on the left is Mr. William C. Friday, President of the University of North Carolina. Seated on the right is Mr. Bob Scott, Governor of the State of North Carolina.
