Description

This image shows an employee of Appalachian State University (1967-current) standing on the side of a hill in Boone, NC, measuring the depth of cracks in the dirt to determine the suitability of the tract of land for development. The Department of Geography and Community Planning at Appalachian State offered a Bachelor of Science in community and regional planning that included classes in regional and urban planning, history, political science, rural and urban economics analysis, and sociology. Appalachian State also worked with the town of Boone to develop zoning policies during the University's and the general area's development in the 1970s and 1980s.
