Description
This image shows a student sitting at a desk in a van in the Department of Speech at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in May 1980. The van was donated by the North Carolina Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation. The Department of Speech was located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and is now part of the Department of Language, Reading and Exceptionalities in the College of Education. It offers undergraduate and graduate work in communication disorders. Graduates can be certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the North Carolina Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction.
