Description
This image shows six attendees of an event in the Department of Speech at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Dean of the Graduate School Cratis Williams can be seen standing second from the left, with Professor Charles Palmer standing on his right. The Department of Speech was located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and is now part of the Department of Language, Reading and Exceptionalities in the College of Education. It offers undergraduate and graduate work in communication disorders. Graduates can be certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the North Carolina Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction. On the far left is Ms. J. Lou Carpenter, Associate Professor in the Department for Speech Pathology and Audiology.
