Description
This image shows three members of the faculty in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Appalachian State University (1967-current) examining a spectrometer in the 1960s. The image shows Professors Walter Connolly, Karl Mamola, and Robert Nicklin. The Department of Physics and Astronomy is in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains the Rankin Science Observatory in Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, and the Dark Sky Observatory, opened 1981, twenty miles northeast of Boone, NC. The Department offers an undergraduate degrees in applied physics and graduate degrees in engineering physics, as well as courses in industrial, chemical, computational, environmental, medical, and radiation safety physics.
