Description

This image shows attendees of an open house held by the Department of Military Science at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the late 1960s or early 1970s. A group of women can be seen standing behind a table, while uniformed men are standing on the left. The Department began in the fall of 1969 and houses the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC). It is located in the College of Fine and Applied Arts and offers two-year programs in leadership and military training with no obligation of future military service, and an additional two-year program that results in a commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve or the Army National Guard.
