This image shows O. L. Brown, former professor of Industrial Arts, shaking hands with a member of the Appalachian Collection in D. D. Dougherty Library, built 1935, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the early 1970s. Oscar Lester Brown was donating a copy of his biography, "Blanford Barnard Dougherty, a man to match his mountains," to the Collection. Brown was a graduate of Appalachian Training School (1903-1925) and son-in-law of B. B. Dougherty, Appalachian State's co-founder and President Emeritus. The W. L. Eury Appalachian Collection is a repository for materials related to the Southern uplands, with strengths in the social sciences, regional history, folklore, music, religion, genealogy, fiction, and African and Native Appalachia.
