A student standing against the wall holds a large rock hammer. Framed pictures of buildings are lining the walls in the background. The Department of Geology began in 1949. It emphasizes the scientific principles of geology and preparing students to be professional geologists and teachers. It is the only Bachelor of Science program that results in an Earth Science Teaching certification in North Carolina.
