This image shows a student writing in a notebook in a room in the Department of Geology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1977. The Department of Geology began in 1949. It emphasizes the scientific principles of geology and preparing students to be professional geologists and teachers. It is the only Bachelor of Science program that results in an Earth Science Teaching certification in North Carolina.
