This image shows a group of students standing outside Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, The man pictured on the right is Dr. Loren Raymon, Professor of Geology observing a device for the Department of Geography and Geology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in the 1970s. Pictured facing the camera is Atnold Gregory. The Department of Geology began in 1949. It emphasizes the scientific principles of geology and preparing students to be professional geologists and teachers. It is the only Bachelor of Science program that results in an Earth Science Teaching certification in North Carolina.
