Title

Snow dinosaur, 1979, photo 1

Description

This image shows a group of geology students building a snow creature outside Rankin Science Hall, built 1963, at Appalachian State University (1967-current) after a snowfall in February 1979. The snow creature resembles a dinosaur with an icicle for a nose. A student is seen sitting on the top of the snow creature's body. The Department of Geology began in 1949. It emphasizes the scientific principles of geology and preparing students to be professional geologists and teachers. It is the only Bachelor of Science program that results in an Earth Science Teaching certification in North Carolina.
