Description

This image shows a student holding a seashell specimen that was part of the seashell collection maintained by the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1978. Other seashells and marine specimens can be seen in a glass display case in the background. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on ecology, zoology, and botany. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus.
