Description

This image shows Professor Frank Randall of the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) standing with Joseph Miller next to a stuffed coyote on a table. The coyote was donated to the department by Joseph Miller, former owner of Boone Drug. Professor John Frank Randall taught at Appalachian State from 1957 until retirement in 1989. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists, and included courses on ecology, zoology, and botany. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus.
