Description

This image shows a group of people being led through a tour of the seashell collection maintained by the Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (1967-current) in April 1978. Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979) can be seen standing third from the right. The Department of Biology aimed to provide cultural background in life sciences, prepare biology teachers, and train biologists. It is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences and maintains a greenhouse, a herbarium, and several land tracts located on and off campus. On the left in the background is Dr. Kent Robinson, Professor of Biology. On the right in the background is Dr. William Carpenter, Professor of Biology and Chairperson of the Department of Biology.
