Description

This image shows the interim president of Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and former president shaking hands on a stage at Appalachian State in 1955. Standing on the left is Blanford Barnard Dougherty, president of Appalachian from 1903 until his retirement on June 30, 1955. On the right is James D. Rankin, who became president after Dougherty's retirement until September 1, when Rankin also retired. Rankin had served as professor of English and dean of the college from 1921 until 1955.
