Description

This image shows a math class taught by Dr. J. T. C. Wright at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Fourth from the right is Dr. Golden Thaddeus Buckland, Professor of Mathematics. Six students and Dr. Wright, seen on the right, surround a table and bins for mail at a post office, while a postal employee bundles a pile of letters with twine in the foreground. The Department of Mathematics and Physics included not only math courses, but courses on photography, heat and sound, electricity, magnetism, household physics, mechanics, and physics. Many hands-on physics and mechanical courses also included additional laboratory sessions. This image was taken in the mid-1950s.
