Description

This image shows four Appalachian State students in costume and dark face paint, two kneeling while the two in the back stand, as part of the initiation process for the Men's "A" Club, in the Men's Gymnasium, built 1934, at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). This image appears in the May 1, 1953 edition of "The Appalachian" (p. 4) with the caption, "Trammell, Brown, Welch, and Blackburn Praise "A" Club." The "A" Club was formed of varsity athletes voted and initiated into the club by existing members.
