Description

This image shows student Nelson Jessup, a member of the business staff for the student newspaper, "The Appalachian," in 1954-55 at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Jessup is seen sitting at a desk next to a rotary telephone, writing in a ledger book. Melvin Nelson Jessup attended Appalachian State for the 1954-55 school year as a junior. "The Appalachian" was written and produced by students, and the business manager and editor were elected by the student body at the end of the previous school year. It began production in 1934 as a weekly newspaper, reporting on campus events, sports, opinions and editorials, and local advertisements.
