Description

This image shows Grace Sentell watching as Mary Alice Patton serves a tennis ball in one of the campus gyms at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) in 1958. They were participating in the Women's Athletic Association's intramural tennis program in 1958. The Women's Athletic Association was formed of women who were physical education majors interested in extracurricular activities related to physical and health education. Association activities included games and programs emphasizing physical education and exercise, such as volleyball, softball, speedball, soccer, and basketball, and various intramural programs including badminton, tennis, archery, and ping-pong. This image appears in the 1958 Rhododendron (p. 156).
