Description

This image shows the house matrons and dormitory presidents of the various dormitories at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) for 1957-58. Shown from left to right, seated, are Mrs. J. B. Majette, supervisor of East Hall, Miss Marjorie Kelley, supervisor of Lovill Hall, Miss Lena Nichols, supervisor of North Hall, Mrs. Stewart Winkler, Miss Helen Stewart, supervisor of Dauph-Blan Hall. Standing are dormitory presidents Becky Bingham, Lorene Parker, Marie Teague, and Virginia Sullivan. Miss W. H. Bell, supervisor of East Hall, and Mary Alice Patton are not shown. Matrons, or supervisors, and presidents were charged with enforcing residence hall policies, including curfews, supervising proper behavior, ensuring students leaving campus had parental permission, enforcing dating policies, etc. This image appears in the 1958 Rhododendron (p. 128).
