This image shows the retirement party held for Lucy Brock, chairman of the Home Economics Department, given in 1961 at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). This image shows three women at a table bearing a multiple-layered cake and several bowls and plates. The woman on the left is seen cutting the top layer from the cake, which bears the number "21" on the top. Lucy Brock, right, came to Appalachian State in 1938, and served as head of the Department of Home Economics for 21 years, from 1940 until her retirement in 1961. The Home Economics Department was housed in the Home Economics Building, built 1905.
