Lucy Brock Retirement Party, 1961, photo 2

This image shows the retirement party held for Lucy Brock, chairman of the Home Economics Department, given in 1961 at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). This image shows a group of women in a room with a table bearing a multiple-layered cake, several bowls, plates, and four lit candles. One woman is seen putting food on a plate. The top layer from the cake bears the number "21" on the top. Lucy Brock came to Appalachian State in 1938, and served as head of the Department of Home Economics for 21 years, from 1940 until her retirement in 1961. The Home Economics Department was housed in the Home Economics Building, built 1905.
