This image shows the retirement party held for Lucy Brock, chairman of the Home Economics Department, given in 1961 at Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967). Three women are seen standing at a table bearing a multiple-layered cake and several bowls and plates. Lucy Brock is seen on the right holding the top layer of the cake in her hand. The cake portion has the number "21" on the top. Lucy Brock came to Appalachian State in 1938, and served as head of the Department of Home Economics for 21 years, from 1940 until her retirement in 1961. The Home Economics Department was housed in the Home Economics Building, built 1905.
