This image shows the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, before the commencement ceremony in May 1980 at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Empty chairs are set up on the basketball court for graduating students, and on the right is a speaker system set up on the stage where commencement addresses would be given. The audience can be seen seated in bleachers in the background.
