This image shows a row of students and professors in caps and gowns standing in front of folding chairs set up for graduating students in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, during the 1973 commencement ceremony at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The audience can be seen in the background on bleachers to the right, and undergraduate students are filing into the chairs on the left. First on the left is Dr. James Jackson, Dean of the College of Continuing Education. Next to him is Dr. Larry Horine, Chairperson of the Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science. Second from the right is Dr. Ray Derrick, Professor of Biology.
