This image shows a student receiving her degree on stage during commencement in August 1977 at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The student is seen in a cap and gown, shaking hands with Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979). Other commencement speakers are seated in the background, and the wall includes the logo of the Southern Conference of 1921, a picture of Yosef, the Appalachian State mascot, and two "No Smoking" signs. Seated on the right is Dr. Nicholas Erneston, Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Seated next to him is Dr. William C. Strickland, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
