These are not masters and doctoral students sitting in the foreground. Rather, they are faculty members. For the record, Appalachian had no doctoral programs in 1971.

Seated in the first row from left to right are Dr. Graydon Eggers (English), Ms. Eunice Query (Library Science), Ms. Mary Huff (Library)< Mr. Walter Hawkinson (Mathematics), Dr. Ray Derrick (Biology), Dr. Leo Pritchett (History), Unknown, Unknown, Mr. Zeb Shook (Library), Ms. Daisy Eggers (English), Ms. Martha Hawkinson (Business Education) and Dr. Max Dixon (History).
