This image shows part of the 1971 commencement ceremony in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1969-current). A professor can be seen standing on the left Dr. James Jackson, Dean of the College of Continuing Education, watching as a man in military dress pins a medal on the jacket of another man in military dress, while a third watches from the right.
