This image shows the awarding of an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree to former Registrar Herman Eggers in 1971, during the 1971 commencement ceremony in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1969-current). Three members of the Appalachian State administration stand by a podium as Cratis Williams, dean of the Graduate School, gives an address. To the left is Chancellor Herbert Walter Wey (1969-1979), and to the right is Professor Emeritus Herman Roland Eggers.
