Description

This image shows jazz artist Duke Ellington speaking beside a piano at Appalachian State University as part of the Artist and Lecture Series. Established in the mid-1950s, Artist and Lecture Series was a program to bring a variety of music, dance, and theater performances to Appalachian State Teachers College (1929-1967) and Appalachian State University (1967-current). Performances and lectures were scheduled throughout the University's academic year, and were attended by students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the surrounding community.
