Description
This image shows one of the student announcers at the student-run radio station, WASU-FM, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The student can be seen flipping through a collection of 33 rpm records on shelves against the wall. Three boxes of 45 rpm records rest on top of the shelves. The radio station began in April 1972, and broadcast a mixture of educational programs and entertainment, including jazz, classical, and rock music, news and programs from National Public Radio, and Appalachian State campus events. Located at 90.5 FM, it focused its programming on student interests. It was originally located in Chapell Wilson Hall, built 1938, but eventually moved to Herbert Wey Hall, built 1976.
