Description
This image shows students waiting to electronically sign up for classes at registration in the Varsity Gymnasium, built 1968, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). In the 1970s, registration was done for the first time by computer. Only students who had incomplete schedules or needed to make changes had to appear at registration. The introduction of student online registration processes first appeared in 1987, allowing students to register for classes, pay fees, and approve or adjust course schedule as needed in one sitting. A large crowd of students can be seen standing or sitting in the background, with lines designated by sheets of paper hanging from a string. In the foreground, students can be seen working on the computers to enter their schedules.
