Title

Registration, 1967, fee payment

Description

This image shows the registration process inside Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The registration process included placement tests for freshmen, class signup, payment of fees, and vaccinations from Health Services for students without proper immunizations. Prior to registration, students had to complete a registration packet, including a Student Information Card, a Locator Card, Program Cards for courses, a Fee Card, a Motor Vehicle Card, and a draft card. On registration day, a student submitted a completed Registration Approval Form from his advisor, with selected course and section numbers, to the Registration Center in the Education Building, built 1925, where the course cards, signifying a student's entry into that course and section, and a Student Master Card were obtained. Both had to be checked and punched before a student could attend classes. In 1967, lines on registration day had students waiting in lines for more than three hours.
