Description
This image shows students in line in Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, during registration at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Students went to specific tables based on alphabetical order of last name. The registration process included placement tests for freshmen, class signup, payment of fees, and vaccinations from Health Services for students without proper immunizations. Prior to registration, students had to complete a registration packet, including a Student Information Card, a Locator Card, Program Cards for courses, a Fee Card, a Motor Vehicle Card, and a draft card. On registration day, a student submitted a completed Registration Approval Form from his advisor, with selected course and section numbers, to the Registration Center, set up in the gymnasium, where the student would obtain course cards, signifying a student's entry into that course and section, and a Student Master Card. Both had to be checked and punched before a student could attend classes.
