Title
Registration, 1976, lines, photo 2
Description
This image shows the long lines for registration in September 1976 at Appalachian State University (1967-current). The line began outside the rear entrance to Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, and extended across Appalachian Street, and along the northern side of Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955. The registration process included placement tests for freshmen, class signup, payment of fees, and vaccinations from Health Services for students without proper immunizations. In the 1970s, registration was done for the first time by computer. Students submitted schedules through the mail, where it was entered into the computer, which selected courses based on availability. Only students who had incomplete schedules, were registering late, or needed to make changes had to appear at registration.
