Title

Student Housing, 1976, line for rooms, photo 2

Description

This image shows students lining up along Broome-Kirk Gymnasium, built 1955, to be assigned rooms in the on-campus housing at Appalachian State University (1967-current) during the 1976-77 academic year. Despite 16 residence halls, more than a hundred students were on a wait list for rooms. Freshmen were required to live on campus, and other students unable to obtain dorm rooms had to find off-campus housing in Boone, NC. The remodeled Steam Generator Plant, built 1924, can be seen in the background.
