Title

Food Services, kitchen, food preparation, photo 4

Description

This image shows John W. Welborn, Food Services manager, overseeing an employee as he removes utensils from a metal basket in the kitchen of Welborn Cafeteria, built 1925, at Appalachian State University (1967-current). Other employees can be seen in the background. Welborn Hall served as the main cafeteria for Appalachian State since its opening in 1925. Food was supplied by the meat, vegetable, and dairy produce from Appalachian State's two farms, as a means of saving money for the University until the early 1960s. This image appears in the February 10, 1966 edition of "The Appalachian."
